NEW YEAR RESOLVE: THE DESIRE TO DO BETTER

The beginning of the year is usually a time when many of us will set New Year’s resolutions that we struggle to keep. Despite our best efforts, the hope and optimism of those early months tends to wear thin as we encounter setbacks and challenges that threaten to get in the way of our goals. To combat these fears, THENSA hit the ground running by working on programmes, events and initiatives which seek to engage abroad cross-section of Industry, Business and Higher Education for solutions on how best to improve our country.

From the 27th to 28th January, we held the final module for our Staff PhD Capacity Enhancement Programme, an initiative which we launched in June 2019 in partnership with the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) and with funding from the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). 47 candidates presented and defended their dissertations, both virtually and in-person, to a group of assessors, supervisors, observers from various academic institutions, as well as their peers. The event allowed them to receive expert feedback on their dissertations which will prove to be helpful as they prepare for submission.
